And did the post of Assistant Professor in the same subject at Madras Residency College. At the age of 16, he was married to Sivakamu in 1903. He was awarded the Bharat Samman in 1954 for his outstanding contribution to education and politics.

After gaining independence in India, Radhakrishnan was urged by Jawaharlal Nehru to fulfill diplomatic tasks with the Soviet Union as ambassador. He held this position till 1952 and after that he was appointed as the Vice-President. After Rajendra Prasad's term ended in 1962, he was made the second President of India. He died on 17 April 1975 after a long illness.
